Albert Wang, M.D. is a physician and partner at the Palo Alto Medical Clinic. Dr. Wang received his Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, his M.D. from the University of California, San Diego, and did his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California, Irvine.
Dr. Wang has significant community leadership experience, having been an active member on the Boards of several organizations, including Friends of Children with Special Needs, Citizens for Better Community, Autism Resource Center, and the American Cancer Society (for both the Northern California Chinese Chapter and the California State Division). He also is a founding member of the East Bay Asian Voter Education Consortium and continues to serve on their Board of Directors.
Dr. Wang also has served on several Fremont Unified School District committees, including the Commission on Instructional Equity, Advisory Committee on Special Education, and Facilities Committee.
Arthur Louie is a partner of Louie & Wong LLP, Certified Public Accountants. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Berkeley and his Master of Science in Taxation from Golden Gate University in San Francisco.
Mr. Louie holds a Certified Public Accountant Certificate from the State of California and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, California Society of Certified Public Accountants, Asian American Certified Public Accountants, Asian Business League, Asian American Manufacturers Association and Association of Governmental Accountants. He is an active member of the Finance & Administration Committee of the United Way of the Bay Area, Asian American Donor Program, and SC International, which is a network of independent public accounting firms located in principal cities throughout the world.
Mr. Louie was associated with Arthur Andersen LLP prior to joining Louie & Wong LLP. His experience has been in a variety of areas such as technology, manufacturing, distribution, real estate construction and development, low-income housing, retirement plans and not-for-profit organizations.
Pamela Fong, O.D. practiced Optometry in the Bay Area, Los Angeles and North Carolina for 11 years. Dr. Fong received her Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from San Francisco State University and Doctor of Optometry from University of California, Berkeley.
Dr. Fong was a member of the management team of Clontech Labs, Inc. in Palo Alto, California for 15 years, in the areas of Finance, Management of Information Systems, and Facilities. Currently, she is active in managing the finances of Kenson Ventures, LLC in Menlo Park, California.
She was the recipient of the "Alumnus of the Year" Award for 2001 from the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry.
In addition to serving on the Board of Vision New America, Dr. Fong is a trustee with the University of California Foundation, and has been an Advisory Board member of the U.S. Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce of Washington, D.C. and Chair of the Arts Committee of the FONG Optometry and Health Sciences Library at the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry. Dr. Fong previously served on the Board of Self-Help for the Elderly and has been involved in various community projects.
Anuradha Basu is Director of the Silicon Valley Center for Entrepreneurship and Associate Professor in the College of Business' Department of Organization & Management at San Jose State University (SJSU). She is also Faculty Advisor to the SJSU Entrepreneurial Society, which offers internship opportunities and shadow programs for SJSU students.
Prior to joining SJSU in Fall 2003, Dr. Basu was Founder-Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship at the University of Reading's Business School and a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in the Department of Management.
During 2002-03, she was a Visiting Scholar at the Center for Research on Economic Development and Policy Reform at Stanford University. She is an internationally recognized researcher in entrepreneurship and has studied topics such as business growth amongst immigrant entrepreneurs, culture and entrepreneurship, and family enterprise. Professor Basu holds a Ph.D. and an MPhil degree in Economics from King's College, University of Cambridge, England, an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, India, and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Economics from St. Stephens' College, University of Delhi, India.
Sandy Chau has been active in Internet investment since 1997. From 1992 to 1997, he had been the CEO of one of the largest and most diversified listed construction and real estate firms in Taiwan. Mr. Chau began his career heading a consulting firm for start-ups in the San Francisco Bay Area. He was the founding president for the influential Asia America Multi-Technology Association (AAMA) in Silicon Valley in 1979. In 1977, he started Universal Semiconductor in San Jose, California. Since 1984, he has been actively involved in various real estate projects in the U.S. and Far East countries. He has a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and a MBA.
Dr. Martha J. Kanter is chancellor of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District. Since coming to California in 1977, Dr. Kanter's accomplishments include setting up the first program for students with learning disabilities at San Jose City College. From there, she served as a director, dean and subsequently as the vice chancellor for policy and research of the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office in Sacramento. Later, she returned to San Jose City College as vice president of instruction and student services. In 1993 she was selected to be president of De Anza College, where she served until becoming chancellor in 2003.
Dr. Kanter holds a doctorate in organization and leadership from the University of San Francisco, a master's degree in education with a concentration in clinical psychology and public practice from Harvard University, and a bachelor's degree in sociology from Brandeis University.
Dr. Kanter's many national, state and local involvements include serving on the board of the nationally renowned League for Innovation in the Community College; Board of the Community College League of California; president of the Community College Leadership Development Initiatives Foundation at the University of San Diego; chair of the legislatively mandated California Community Colleges' Technology and Telecommunications Committee, and board of director with EdSource. In the Bay Area, Dr. Kanter is co-chair of Joint Venture: Silicon Valley Network, Inc.; trustee of the San Jose Museum of Art, trustee of The National Hispanic University, and trustee of the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology. She also holds appointments on the board of the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley, the North Valley Workforce Investment Board (NOVA), the Mexican Heritage Corporation, the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, the Stanford Business School Alumni Consulting Team, and MentorNet, the e-mentoring program to attract and retain women in higher education entering the fields of science, engineering and technology.
Dr. Kanter is a also a senior fellow of the American Leadership Forum-Silicon Valley and belongs to the Rotary Club of Palo Alto, formerly serving for 10 years as a member of the Rotary Club of Cupertino and 5 years on the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce. Over the years, she has been president of several statewide associations: the Association of California Community College Administrators (ACCCA); the Learning Assessment Retention Consortium (LARC); and the California Association of Postsecondary Educators of the Disabled (CAPED).
Dr. Kanter was named Woman of the Year in 1996 by the 24th California Assembly District and Woman of Achievement by the San Jose Mercury News and the Women's Fund, and in 1999 was named Woman of the Year for Santa Clara County by the American Association of University Women. In July 2002, Dr. Kanter was the recipient of the Heinlen Award for Promoting Cultural Diversity in the region from the Chinese Historical and Cultural Project, a San Jose- based non-profit educational organization. In October 2003, she received the Excellence in Education award from the National Organization for Women, California Chapter.
Hsing Kung co-founded Pine Photonics in 2000 and served as President/CEO until merging with OpNext where he served as Sr. VP of Opnext Inc. His previous experience included co-founder/VP manufacturing of SDL Inc. from 1983 to 1997, and co-founder/CEO of Luxnet Corp from 1999 to 2001. He also serves on the boards of several optoelectronics companies.
In recent years, Dr. Kung has devoted his time to promoting Chinese-American participation in main stream community. He was a former board member of the Fremont Union High School District. During his tenure, he made significant contributions to promoting multi-cultural climate in the high schools. In addition, he was also involved in many other community programs and foundations. Currently, he serves on United Way Silicon Valley Board, and American Leadership Forum Silicon Valley board.
Dr. Kung holds Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from National Cheng Kung University, Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA from Santa Clara University.
In 1997, he was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Northern American National Cheng Kung University Alumni Association. In March 2001, he received a "Partnering for Education" award from The National Council of Negro Women, Northern California Section. In December of 2001, Dr. Kung and his wife Margaret both received the "Venture Culturists" award from De Anza College in Cupertino. In 2002, Dr. Kung received the "Asian American Hero" award from Santa Clara County. In April 2004, he received the "Community Star Award" from Asian Americans for Community Involvement (AACI), in San Jose.
Dang Pham is the Executive Director of San Francisco's Immigrant Rights Commission, a 15 member commission that is charged with the primary duty of providing advice and making recommendations to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and the Mayor on issues affecting immigrants working and residing in the City of San Francisco.
