Hsing Kung co-founded Pine Photonics in 2000 and served as President/CEO until merging with OpNext where he served as Sr. VP of Opnext Inc. His previous experience included co-founder/VP manufacturing of SDL Inc. from 1983 to 1997, and co-founder/CEO of Luxnet Corp from 1999 to 2001. He also serves on the boards of several optoelectronics companies.
In recent years, Dr. Kung has devoted his time to promoting Chinese-American participation in main stream community. He was a former board member of the Fremont Union High School District. During his tenure, he made significant contributions to promoting multi-cultural climate in the high schools. In addition, he was also involved in many other community programs and foundations. Currently, he serves on United Way Silicon Valley Board, and American Leadership Forum Silicon Valley board.
Dr. Kung holds Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from National Cheng Kung University, Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA from Santa Clara University.
In 1997, he was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Northern American National Cheng Kung University Alumni Association. In March 2001, he received a "Partnering for Education" award from The National Council of Negro Women, Northern California Section. In December of 2001, Dr. Kung and his wife Margaret both received the "Venture Culturists" award from De Anza College in Cupertino. In 2002, Dr. Kung received the "Asian American Hero" award from Santa Clara County. In April 2004, he received the "Community Star Award" from Asian Americans for Community Involvement (AACI), in San Jose.
Dang Pham is the Executive Director of San Francisco's Immigrant Rights Commission, a 15 member commission that is charged with the primary duty of providing advice and making recommendations to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and the Mayor on issues affecting immigrants working and residing in the City of San Francisco.
