I was an intern for the office of Assembly member Rebbecca Cohn, who represented District 24, in the summer of 2006. I was one of the head leader or the Public Health Policy Interns, where I was a part of a larger group of interns who organized a successful Health Fair. There were over 30 health vendors, as well as over 100 family members. My work with the Public Health Policy has now lead to pursue an intended major in Public Health at the University of California at Berkeley as the class of 2011. I found that I not only wanted to health individual people with their health issues but to prevent health issues on a larger scale, where I could make a larger impact on a greater amount of people. Raising awareness and educating people about health seems to have a larger impact on our society than by just curing one person at a time, when we can prevent thousands all at once.

As a high school intern, Vision New America gave me opportunities to explore community leadership with the APALI training, the internship, and all the volunteer events that they provided. It felt great to be surrounded by so many students who had similar ambitions and a passion for community activism.

"Only because of VNA can I brag to my friends that I spoke with Congressman Mike Honda and worked for an Assemblywoman. I even got to give a friend a birthday card signed by Rebecca Cohn! VNA provided me with awesome political opportunities most young adults don't get, like touring the State Capitol and meeting high-profile officials."
