Vision New America's Announces Recruitment for 2009 Youth Leadership and
Civic Engagement (YLCE) Program
SAN JOSE, CA – Vision New America (VNA), a nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to promote civic participation, educational activities, and leadership development of underrepresented groups. With that mission in mind, VNA announces recruitment for their 2009 Youth Leadership and Civic Engagement (YLCE) Program. Through YLCE, VNA offers leadership training and over 60 summer internships in elected official offices, government agencies, and policy related organizations.
“We want to pass the baton to young people because seeing…how invigorating and how vigorous and how energetic and how intelligent and how wise they are at such a young age really reflects the potential that they can give this country in terms of leadership,” stated Congressman Mike Honda (D-CA) of California’s 15th District. “…A lot of that has to do with the group like Vision New America… seeking out these young people to promote their efforts in public policy, in volunteerism, and public service.”
High school, undergraduate, and graduate students are placed at local, state or federal level government offices in the Bay Area or Capitol (Sacramento or Washington D.C.). Combined with trainings, community service projects, and participation in voter registration, local high school and college students are given the opportunity to gain first-hand public policy experience and develop valuable leadership skills.
Interested students can obtain an application at VNA’s website: www.visionnewamerica.org. Deadline for submission of applications is February 13, 2009.
